Residual Force

Residual Force draws from high-speed, slow-motion imaging to examine the visual aftermath of force.

The composition isolates a transient moment immediately following discharge, extending it through paint. Motion, fragmentation, and light are emphasized while the originating action remains outside the frame, shifting attention to consequence rather than cause.

The work investigates how perception changes when time is expanded—revealing structures and patterns that are otherwise imperceptible. The dark field removes environmental context, allowing the event to exist in isolation.

Through this approach, the painting moves away from narrative and toward observation, focusing on the material and visual behavior of force as it dissipates.
